Instead of an outright ban, I have a solution. There are many military units that have been issued/chosen/been told they are using this absurdly dangerous holster. For you guys here is what I've got-
With the holster empty take a long sharp knife, reach down inside the SERPA and cut/saw the plastic piece that rests inside the trigger guard when the weapon is holstered. You may need to use a set of needle nose pliers to help rip that nub off. This will make the push button a non issue and the tension screw can be used for retention.
Whoever chose this piece of shit to be issued to anyone- you're an inexperienced pistol shooter who has no common sense. Hope you got a decent kickback from Blackhawk.

I've found the Safariland ALS holster a better alternative to the "popular" SERPA. Would you agree???
Serpa is deffinetly full of the ghey. Lots of guys in my hospital dept. like them and I gave up explaining why they are stupid.
If you crank the little tension screw down hard, you can get decent retention without the "shoot your leg button" functioning. I had to remove the screw and take out a little plastic disk spacer, then crank it down to get my gun to stay put.
Wasn't the SERPA designed by a navy SEAL? If fact Blackhawk's owner is a former Navy SEAL.
These Serpas suck. Bad stories everywhere!!
NT
They SUCK!!!!!!! Good Call!!!!!

All this from a guy that couldn't even figure out how to pull the pin out of the retention device to disable it. Then again, I've never been to one of these super mall ninja classes so I probably don't know what I'm talking about.
You're right Anonymous, you don't know what you're talking about.
The guys who support the holster say (rightfully so) that shooters have ultimate responsibility for the mishaps.
Does anyone believe that blame solely falls on one party? Can anyone explain the higher correlation to AD's (correlation is NOT causation). However you see it, it's obvious that this Serpa "helps" people have accidents.
Is the 2012 honda cbr 1000rr is a safe bike? It's up to the rider, but insurance companies (which use a LOT of science to assess risk) think so...
Your classes, your decision, but I applaud it.
Oops, not clear. The motorcycle analogy insurance companies think it's safe (or they wouldn't cover them) but that they aren't AS SAFE.
All things are relative, shades of grey. Don't try and convince me the design of the serpa doesn't contribute to (not cause) the many AD's that we are starting to learn about.
I agree with El Wray. I've had my Safariland ALS for years and love it. I would definitely recommend it over this SERPA holster. There is no learning curve, it's just an autonomous reflex.
I agree with the above comments. There are too many other holster companies that don't have the injury record of the SERPA. Sure, you can say that there is no correlation, but that's an awful lot of coincidences.
There's plenty of other videos that show SERPA's that get jammed with pebbles and lock up.

I'm curious what occurred to promote this. Close call in a class? The holster is a shit design. Who thought it was a good idea? Press hard with your finger on this little button and drag your weapon out until your finger falls right on the frame..... Or trigger.. what ever. No one really dirt dive this one?
The reason to disable the so called retention device internally vs removing entirely it via the little pin is so it isn't apparent to the idiots who bought you the holster in the first place.
Give me 60 seconds and I can completely jam and then break a Serpa in half with one hand. It never fails. The test part not the Serpa. The Serpa always fails.
pull out your EOD tool and pull the pin, then use the wire cutter to cleanly snip off the nub then put the button and pin back in. much safer, easier, and cleaner to do.
I wonder if we would get to see him ND a round through his heart?

These holsters are not as horrible as you people think. I have used one since they have come out and never had a problem. I’ve been through several tactical shooting courses with it, including NRA Instructor course. Have done several law enforcement scenario based training with it and have never even once come close to the issues that are being described. Of course just like the entire internet it is a lot of one sided blah blah. SO I am putting the other side down.
Not a bad holster if you are training with that holster. The biggest issue that I have seen is these nuts are training with many holsters and many guns. This is a big flipping moronic move. Yes owning gun, lots of guns, and lots of different guns is great. But to just buy any and every holster and use it is stupid and as we have seen on multiple accounts dangerous. Ask anyone who has had a ND and they will tell you, "well yeah I have all kinds of holsters, and I use them all for different things.
Stick with one and become a master of one.
Use many and become a master of NONE.
I have used a Serpa holster for 2 years on duty and, now that I have changed firearms, I will be switching to a Safariland ALS. Not because it’s safer, just because I can’t find a left hand Serpa for my gun. Bottom line, they are both excellent holsters. I have drawn from my Serpa many many times, both in practice and with a suspect, and have never had my trigger finger land on the trigger without me meaning to. In fact, to do so would show a lack of training and intellect. However I do believe that Serpa holster should only be made available to those that are in the military or wear a badge so they will have training and will not make civilian mistakes. That being said, I can't wait for my Safariland holster because it is the same kind I use for my Taser and I know that they are great.
Sir, a friend sent me your web page, saw some very good stuff about your shooting drills. Some solid stuff for strong and advanced shooter, I will more than likely incorperate some what I read in some of my training. Now the down side...The sepa holster, I have one of the first gens to come out. Have been carrying it for years in combat and training and never had an issue with it. So I would have explained the the issues, maybe used some photos to illustrate the issues so people may have a better idea of the problem. To throw insults and question a persons experience level is unprofessional thing to post on strong web like yours, I have used and will continue to use my holsters as is. My experience level does at a minimum is equal to yours. And a thing to consider is shooters pushing themself beyond their skill level. Sorry for the long reply stay in the fight Goat
The big issue is that there are no alternatives in that price range. I can get a SERPA set for $25 on GSAA. A safariland costs five to ten times that. Try explaining to an ignorant contracting squadron why the holster orders suddenly have another digit in the price.
So now what? Do we sign for a G-code or an ALS?
Posing as a top notch training Instituition, pretty unprofessional.
There are many ways to eloquently state your beliefs on Serpa Holsters in a professional, logical manner...but you just blew it!
It's going to be hard for you to gain respect from a wider audience and gain more business if you show this level of class?
